Best student/graduate of the Faculty of Chemistry in the 2021/2022 year

By the resolutions of the Dean's Council of the Faculty of Chemistry of 20th September this year, the title of the best graduate of the Faculty of Chemistry in the academic year 2021/2022 was awarded to Aleksander Smolarkiewicz-Wyczachowski, M.Sc. - a graduate of Medicinal Chemistry Master studies. The title of the best student of the Faculty was awarded to Katarzyna Pianka, BEng. - full-time second-cycle student of Chemistry. In addition, distinctions were awarded to Paweł Nowak, M.Sc. - this year's graduate of Medicinal Chemistry Master studies, and Lidia Zasada, B.Sc. - a full-time second-cycle Cosmetic Chemistry student.

Aleksander Smolarkiewicz-Wyczachowski graduated in Medicinal chemistry Master degree with an average grade of 4.77. He is a co-author of 5 scientific publications in journals with high IF and 1 monograph. He is a multiple recipient of the Rector's scholarship. He has twice received the MEiN scholarship for outstanding achievements and three times the scholarship of the President of Toruń. He presented the results of his research at many scientific conferences. In 2021, he completed a three-month research internship at the University of Ljubljana as part of Erasmus +. In addition, Aleksander Smolarkiewicz-Wyczachowski actively participated in the promotion of the Faculty of Chemistry and the University as well as the popularization of science. He was the President of the Chemistry Students Association and unselfishly participated in many charity actions. In 2022/2023, he will begin his studies at the Academia Copernicana Doctoral School.

Katarzyna Pianka earned an engineering degree in Food Chemistry and Technology and completed her first year of Chemistry Master degree with an average grade of 4.95. She is a co-author of 3 scientific publications in journals with high IF. She presented the results of her research at scientific conferences. She was awarded three scholarships by the Rector of the Nicolaus Copernicus University. In 2021/2022 she received a scholarship from the President of Toruń. Katarzyna Pianka studied in Brno (Czech Republic) for one semester; in 2021 she completed an internship at the National Institute of Chemistry in Ljubljana and was qualified for training at the Chemical and Technology University in Prague in the Czech Republic in 2022/2023 under Erasmus + program. She is also a laureate of the 2nd edition of Grants4NCUStudents, IDUB. From the academic year 2020/2021, she has been a member of the Membranes and Membrane Processes Scientific Team, where she completed her engineering thesis and currently continues her research as part of her master's thesis implementation.

Paweł Nowak graduated in Medicinal Chemistry Masters with an average grade of 4.9. He is a co-author of 5 scientific publications in journals with high IF and one patent. He was awarded many times with medals, together with the team of Professor J. Łukaszewicz, for an invention of graphene roses. He was the manager of the grant awarded in the Grants 4 Students competition from IDUB. Moreover, he was awarded many times by the Rector of the Nicolaus Copernicus University with a scholarship. He has twice received the MEiN scholarship for outstanding achievements and three times the scholarship of the President of Toruń. He actively promoted the University, the Faculty of Chemistry, and the popularization of science. He presented the results of his research at many scientific conferences. In 2020/2021, he was awarded the title of the Best Student of the Faculty of Chemistry at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. In 2022/2023 he will start doctoral studies at AST UMK.

Lidia Zasada, graduated in Cosmetic Chemistry Bachelor studies with an average grade of 4.5. She participates in the “Studies with a Mentor” program, and is the winner of the 3rd edition of Grants4NCUStudents, IDUB. In the 2021/2022 academic year, she received a MEiN scholarship for outstanding achievements. She is a co-author of 3 scientific publications in journals with high IF. She presented the results of her research at a scientific conference. Since April 2022, she has been employed as part of the NCBiR Tango V grant for the project "Lyophilisate of glycosaminoglycans and collagen from fish skin for biomedical applications".
